Orange County is located in the greater Los Angeles area of Southern California. Orange, California · List of school districts in. The Santa Fe, under the management of its subsidiary Southern California Railway, laid its first tracks through Orange in 1886 and established its first deposit the following year. The completion of Interstate 5 in 1954 helped make Orange County a bedroom community for many of those who moved to Southern California to work in aerospace and manufacturing. Orange County is bordered on the southwest by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Los Angeles County, on the northeast by the County of Los Angeles, on the northeast by the County of San Bernardino, to the east with Riverside County and to the southeast with San Diego County.
Although Barbara Boxer won statewide, and did better in Orange County than in 1998, Republican Bill Jones defeated her in the county, 51% to 43%. According to the 2000 census, there were 2,846,289 people, 935,287 households and 667,794 families living in the county, making Orange County the second most populous county in California. Smog is common throughout much of Orange County, although the coast generally has cleaner air due to ocean winds. The I-5 junction with two state highways (SR 57, Orange Freeway and SR 22, Garden Grove Freeway), commonly called Orange Crush, is one of the busiest links in Orange County and is located on the southwest corner of the city.
Although single-family homes constitute the dominant landscape for most of the county, northern and central Orange County are relatively more urbanized and dense compared to areas beyond Irvine, which are less dense, though still contiguous and mostly suburban rather than exurban. The Village at Orange (originally Orange Mall, then Mall of Orange) on North Orange on Tustin Avenue, near Lincoln, is anchored by Walmart and (formerly closed 202 Sears). With home games played at the Championship Soccer Stadium in the Great Park of Orange County, the team seeks to grow in the Orange County community and achieve continued success.
Orange County SC is a United Soccer League team and is the only professional football club in Orange County. Other ranches in Orange County were granted by the Mexican government during the Mexican period in Alta California. Northern Orange County, which includes Anaheim, Fullerton and Santa Ana, was the first part of the county to develop and is culturally closer to neighboring Los Angeles County.
